A Historic Year in the Books: Reflecting on 2025 in Morrilton

As we look back on 2025, there is one word that keeps coming up in City Hall, on the radio, and across our dinner tables: Historic. In 2025, we had groundbreaking industrial investments and celebrated two centuries of heritage. In his recent State of the City address, Mayor Allen Lipsmeyer noted that this was the best year for our community since he took office.

Here’s a look at the milestones that made 2025 a year for the history books.

1. A Billion-Dollar Vote of Confidence

The biggest headline of the year—and the largest capital investment in the history of Central Arkansas—came in June when Green Bay Packaging announced a massive $1 billion expansion of its Morrilton facility: Project PowerPack.

PowerPack will benefit the future of the workforce and reduce the paper mill’s environmental impact. The expansion includes:

  • Modernizing the mill infrastructure to double production capacity.
  • The creation of 35 new high-paying jobs for operators, engineers, and mechanics.
  • Installation of a steam-driven electric turbine generator to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

This project was made possible by an incredible regional partnership, including the relocation of Highway 113.

2. Celebrating 200 Years of Conway County

While we looked toward the future of industry, we also honored our roots. In October, we kicked off the Conway County Bicentennial, marking 200 years since our county was formed from the Arkansas Territory.

The kickoff in downtown Morrilton was a night to remember. With the community photo on the Courthouse lawn and the historical documentaries shown at the Rialto Theater, it was a beautiful reminder of the legacy we’ve inherited. Arkansas writer and historian Rex Nelson reminded us of our rich history and thriving community spirit.

3. Economic Growth by the Numbers

You may have noticed more construction around town. In 2025, the city issued 34 building permits valued at over $22.8 million, a staggering 244% increase over the previous year.

A few of these new private investments are:

  • The new Nursing and Science Center and clock tower at UACCM.
  • The relocation of Robinson Enterprises into the former Vinh Long building.
  • A new Murphy USA and a total remodel of the Love’s Travel Stop.
  • The continued revitalization and refurbishment of our historic downtown buildings.

Our sales tax revenue also hit record highs, up 55% over the last 11 years. Our city is in excellent fiscal condition to keep improving our roads, parks, and services.

4. Community Milestones

It wasn’t all business in 2025. We also celebrated:

  • The 100th Anniversary of the Morrilton Hospital.
  • The first-ever Very Merry Morrilton Christmas tree lighting.
  • The initial planning stages for a brand-new Sports Complex that will serve our youth for generations to come.

Looking Ahead to 2026

As we close the chapter on 2025, the momentum isn’t slowing down. This coming year, keep an eye out for new sidewalks along Highway 95, continued progress on the Green Bay expansion, and the 100-year celebration of the Southern Christian Home.

Thank you to the citizens, the small business owners, and the industrial partners who made 2025 a landmark year.
